The Tulsa Shock will have a new head coach next season. The WNBA team has hired Indiana Fever Assistant Coach Gary Kloppenburg and will formally introduce him Wednesday.

Kloppenburg spent the last four seasons with the Fever, making the playoffs each year. Kloppenburg replaces Teresa Edwards, who took over on an interim basis when Coach Nolan Richardson stepped down last season.

Oklahoma State University assistant basketball coach Miranda Serna, who died in a plane crash this month, has been laid to rest in New Mexico. More >

The Mustangs wrap up the regular season against defending Conference USA Champion Tulsa on Saturday in Moody Coliseum at 1 p.m. SMU snapped the Golden Hurricane’s 26-match conference win streak with a 3-1 victory in Tulsa on Oct. 5. It is the only loss of the season in conference play for Tulsa, entering the match with an 18-1 conference record for a second-straight title. Tulsa is 27-5 overall. More >

Drag racing fans are reacting with shock and disappointment to the news that Tulsa Raceway Park is closing by the end of the month.

According to a post on the track’s Facebook page, the track will close on October 24th.  The statement blames the closure on the economy. More >

University of Nebraska transfer Cody Green has signed scholarship papers with The University of Tulsa, it was announced today by Head Coach Bill Blankenship. Green, who was a two-year letterman at Nebraska, will report to fall camp on August 2nd with the Tulsa newcomers. Tulsa received Green’s scholarship papers this morning.

Green will sit out the 2011 season due to NCAA transfer rules, but will have two years of eligibility remaining beginning with the 2012 campaign.

The 6’4” quarterback played in 17 career games and had four starts for the Cornhuskers. He completed 54-percent of his passes (66-of-122) for 657 yards and five touchdowns in his two seasons. In 2010, Green threw for 340 yards and three TDs as he completed 33-of-66 passes, while rushing for 96 yards and one touchdown.

Former Nebraska quarterback Cody Green has said he will transfer to Tulsa, choosing the Golden Hurricane over Baylor, a Houston television reported Thursday.

“I will be at the University of Tulsa starting next week,” Green told Fox 26. “I made it based on opportunity.

“That was the best opportunity that I had to fulfill the dreams that I have of wanting to make to the NFL, getting on the field, period.”

North Tulsa- Firefighters arrived to the garage just before 6 Thursday morning. When they got here there was heavy flames but they were able to get it out. The garage is near a home at 3214 E. Archer Street.

Nobody was inside. A fire investigator on scene says he’s still working on a cause. Inside the garage was some storage items.

The house near the garage is occupied but so far no one appears to be home.

It’s pretty much a total loss.
